Residential development, Didsbury, South Manchester

On site – completion due early 2013

Value: £750,000

This development of five contemporary family houses for a local private developer, located on a prominent corner plot just outside the centre of Didsbury, is a modern take on the vernacular red brick terraced house. They are designed as a repeated module that is highly spatially efficient with a narrow, deep plan and has accommodation over three floors.

A strategy to maximise natural light through large window openings on the North and South elevations and large roof lights over central stairwells ensures every living space is optimised. Externally, the main brickwork facade has been carefully designed to respond to the surrounding context and be visually stimulating through the introduction of deep recesses and chamfered window reveals.

The development is designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 through a variety of energy saving measures including an extensive array of photovoltaic panels hidden from view on the flat roof.
