About

Gibson Architects was founded by Dan Gibson in 2008. Dan is a chartered Architect, based in the Scottish Borders, with a wealth of experience across various sectors, and of working with both commercial and residential clients, end users and stakeholders, charitable and community organisations.

He is driven by the belief that all projects should be underpinned by a strong concept or “big idea” and that the following core values should inform his work:

·         Architects have a fundamental responsibility to the environment and must consider sustainable principles from the outset of any project.

·         Every opportunity should be considered from first principles, rather than applying stock solutions.

·         Simple, robust and functional design, without the need for gimmicks, is timeless.

·         The most successful projects result from a collaborative design process with our clients and fellow consultants.

Recent projects include a Wood-Working School, renewable energy installation at a local village hall for a community group, a viability study for the development of a listed building for a local community trust, developing proposals for a sustainable glamping site and one-off house designs and domestic remodelling for private clients.

Dan has also worked extensively in Higher Education as a Design Tutor and is regularly invited as a guest critic. This provides an opportunity to interact with the next generation of Architects, encourage and discuss their ideas, which he thoroughly enjoys.

Outside of Architecture, and being a busy Dad of two, Dan is interested in other design disciplines and a keen maker of things in his home workshop. He particularly enjoys working with metal to create both functional and sculptural commissions.
